C.R.E.A.M of the Crop in Brighton

Brighton's specialty coffee spot

Since opening its doors in 2015, C.R.E.A.M has been making waves in the Brighton cafe scene. Whipping up breakfast, brunch and lunch 7 days, the first specialty coffee spot in the area has racked up over 300 rave reviews in its first 18 months, amid amassing a swagger of devout customers.

Living up to its acronym – C.R.E.A.M (Coffee Rules Everything Around Me) – boasts South Australia’s number 1 latte artist, Joshua Rivers (who also happens to be the owner). Sharing is caring, though, and for any baristas-in-the-making who would like to see how it’s done, Josh holds latte art classes in store Thursday and Friday nights (bookings essential via thecreamteamjrb@gmail.com).

But behind the love hearts, tulips and rosettas in your mug that make you get your phone out before taking a sip, is a focus on specialty coffee that Josh personally ensures. Having recently travelled to Sumatra to visit numerous coffee plantations, it appears not all coffee is created equal. The beans at C.R.E.A.M are ethically and sustainably produced, and profits go back to all aspects of the supply chain.

Enough about the espresso particulars, the food menu here is equally impressive – and artistic. The breakfast/brunch spread includes beauties such as the Donut Breakfast Sandwich (no – you read that right), Hotcake Stack topped with Rogo’s Special Fried Chicken (that, too) and Nan’s Corn Fritter Stack (no word of a lie – it’s her own recipe).

A café with a soft spot for the four-legged, C.R.E.A.M has recently been asked by the council to stop letting your furry friends inside, however – their out the front seating on its way will soon allow you to slip Fido some of that fried chicken under the table (if he’s lucky).

There’s more good (albeit dangerous) news. If you can’t make it in to C.R.E.A.M – or make it there too much – their moreish produce will soon be easily available via Uber Eats.

With huge success under its belt already and plans to open more venues in the future, this cafe really is the C.R.E.A.M of the crop.
